Dr. Amy Vowler
Founder & Medical Director, Hair GP
During the Covid pandemic, Dr Amy developed telogen effluvium — and went from doctor to patient overnight. Combined with living with PCOS (now PMOS), she understood first-hand what hormonal hair loss does to your confidence, your daily life, and your sense of self. That personal experience drove her to create Hair GP: a dedicated, GP-led service where women’s hair loss is treated as the medical issue it is — not dismissed as cosmetic.
Dr Amy graduated with honours from St George’s University of London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners. In 2025 she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Hair Science and Trichology with Distinction from the University of South Wales — one of very few doctors in the UK to hold both a medical degree and a formal trichology qualification. Her surgical training includes mentorship under Professor Gambino, former head of the Italian Hair Restoration Society, and advanced training through the ISHRS. She is an affiliate member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS).
As both a GP and hair specialist, Dr Amy can assess your hormonal health, prescribe HRT, run blood tests, and deliver treatments like PRP, and polynucleotides — all in one place, without NHS referrals.

Outside medicine, Dr Amy can usually be found paddle boarding in Devon or walking the Thames Path with her beloved pug.
Why Begin Your Journey with Us?
Doctor-Led
Your hair loss is a medical issue, not a cosmetic one. At Hair GP, every consultation is led by Dr. Amy Vowler — a Fellow of the Royal College of GPs with a Postgraduate Certificate in Hair Science and Trichology. You’ll see a doctor who can diagnose, prescribe, and treat, all under one roof.
Someone Who Truly Understands
Dr. Amy developed telogen effluvium during the Covid pandemic and lives with PCOS. She went from doctor to patient overnight — and knows first-hand what hormonal hair loss does to your confidence and your daily life. That personal experience shapes everything we do at Hair GP.
Everything in One Place
Blood tests, hormonal assessments, HRT prescribing, PRF, and polynucleotides, — all available without NHS referrals or bouncing between specialists. Dr. Amy can assess your hormonal health and deliver your treatment in the same clinic.
Your First Visit
– What to Expect
Your journey starts with a comprehensive medical consultation (£300). Dr. Amy will assess your scalp, review your health history, run any necessary blood work or genetic testing, and build a personalised treatment plan. No rushed appointments, no one-size-fits-all approach.
Proven, Evidence-Based Treatments
Dr. Amy trained under Professor Gambino, former head of the Italian Hair Restoration Society, and through the ISHRS. She is one of very few UK doctors holding both a medical degree and a formal trichology qualification. Your treatment plan is grounded in the latest clinical evidence.

the First Step?
Book a consultation or, if you already know the treatment you’d like, contact us to schedule directly. For all other appointments, a refundable £100 deposit secures your booking.
What to Expect From Your Consultation
Your consultation with Dr Amy is a full medical appointment, not a sales pitch. It lasts approximately 50 minutes and includes a detailed discussion of your health history, hormones, lifestyle, diet, stress levels, and any medications you’re taking. Dr Amy will examine your scalp using trichoscopy — a high-magnification analysis that reveals what’s happening at the follicle level — and review or arrange comprehensive blood tests to identify underlying causes.
You’ll leave with a clear diagnosis, a written personalised treatment plan, and a full understanding of what’s causing your hair loss and what can be done about it. Follow-up notes are sent after every consultation so you can refer back to everything discussed.
Because Dr Amy is both a GP and a hair restoration specialist, she can investigate, diagnose, and treat in a single appointment — something that isn’t possible through the NHS pathway, where hair loss is often dismissed or passed between specialists.
Consultations cost £300 and can be booked online.
How Hair GP Helps Women
Hair loss in women is overwhelmingly hormonal — yet it’s one of the most underdiagnosed and undertreated conditions in the NHS. Many women are told their thinning is “normal” or “just stress” without any investigation.
At Hair GP, Dr Amy specialises in female hair loss linked to perimenopause, menopause, PCOS, thyroid dysfunction, post-pregnancy changes, and contraceptive-related shedding. As a qualified GP, she can prescribe HRT directly where appropriate — meaning you don’t need to go back to your NHS doctor for a separate hormonal assessment.
Treatment options for women include PRP therapy, polynucleotide injections, topical medical treatments, nutritional optimisation, and hormonal management.
The goal is always the same: find the root cause, treat it properly, and give you a plan that fits your life.
How Hair GP Helps Men
Male hair loss is common but that doesn’t mean it has to be accepted. Whether you’re noticing early thinning at your hairline or temples, or dealing with more advanced loss, Dr Amy provides a thorough medical assessment to understand what’s driving it and what will actually work.
Consultations for men follow the same rigorous approach — trichoscopy, blood work, and a full health review — because effective treatment starts with accurate diagnosis. Dr Amy will talk you through the evidence behind every option, from medical treatments like finasteride and minoxidil to PRP therapy and polynucleotides.
There’s no pressure to commit to any treatment. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your hair loss, realistic expectations, and a plan tailored to your goals.

To book an appointment at our clinic, simply reach out to us through our website or, if you prefer, via WhatsApp. Once you contact us, a member of our team will be in touch to schedule your appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
Please contact the clinic if you have any questions and we can advise on an individual basis.
Yes, there is a £50 deposit required to book an appointment, which is refundable against any treatment, medical consultation, or diagnostic services provided during your visit. However, if you are scheduling an appointment specifically to discuss whether you are a suitable candidate for a hair transplant, this initial consultation is free of charge.
Prior to your appointment, a team member will reach out to assist you in completing a medical form. Our medical team will review this form to ensure there are no contraindications for treatment. Subsequently, you will receive comprehensive information about your requested treatment, including pre- and post-procedure advice. You will also be invited to schedule your appointment at a convenient time. At this stage of the booking process, an initial deposit will be required to secure your appointment.
Some patients approach us with specific treatments in mind, such as PRP, polynucleotides, or a hair transplant. In such cases, our team can immediately schedule your preferred treatment. However, if you’re unsure about the right option, we recommend booking a medical consultation. During this initial visit, Dr. Amy will thoroughly evaluate your condition, discuss all available treatments, and recommend the best approach tailored to your needs. This consultation also offers the opportunity for necessary blood tests or genetic testing, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of your hair loss and the most effective treatment strategy.
For treatments like PRP or polynucleotides, we suggest booking a package of at least three sessions. Hair growth and restoration occur over a 3-12 month cycle, so results are not typically visible after just one treatment. By committing to a series of treatments, you can fully benefit from these therapies, allowing the natural hair cycle to respond and visibly improve hair density and health. This approach maximises the effectiveness of the treatments, leading to more significant and lasting results.
Absolutely, our clinic is fully insured and indemnified, guaranteeing that all operations and procedures adhere to the highest safety and professionalism standards. This coverage underscores our dedication to delivering exceptional care within a secure and trusted environment for every patient.
