Hair Restoration Treatments

Every treatment we recommend starts with a diagnosis. Hair loss has dozens of causes — hormonal, nutritional, autoimmune, genetic — and the treatment that works for one type can be completely wrong for another. That’s why we never prescribe without assessing you first.

Below you’ll find the treatments we offer at Hair GP. Each page explains how the treatment works, who it’s for, and what to expect. If you’re not sure what you need, a diagnostic consultation with blood tests and trichoscopy will give you a clear starting point.

Prescription Medications

These are the medical treatments a doctor prescribes based on your diagnosis. Trichologists and salons can’t offer them — that’s one reason a doctor-led clinic matters.

Compare Treatments for Women

Every evidence-based option on one page — minoxidil, anti-androgens, PRP, polynucleotides and more — with honest evidence ratings and real prices, so you can see the whole landscape before you choose.

Dutasteride for Women

The strongest DHT-blocker, used off-label for female pattern hair loss when first-line options are not enough — what it does, who it suits, and the monitoring it needs.

Comparison of oral minoxidil tablets and topical minoxidil solution for female hair loss

Oral Minoxidil

A low-dose tablet that stimulates hair growth systemically — no messy scalp application. One of the most significant advances in hair loss treatment in recent years. Most UK pharmacies won’t prescribe it to women. We can.

Pathway from OTC minoxidil to oral and combination hair loss therapies

Topical Minoxidil

The most established treatment for hair thinning, applied directly to the scalp. Available over the counter at 2%, but we typically prescribe 5% for women — with monitoring to manage side effects that put many women off using it properly.

DHT binds to hair follicle causing miniaturization; spironolactone blocks it, aiding recovery.

Spironolactone

An anti-androgen that blocks the hormonal pathway behind female pattern hair loss. Particularly effective for women with PCOS-related thinning or those who haven’t responded to minoxidil alone. Requires blood monitoring — which is why it needs a doctor, not a pharmacy.

Finasteride molecules inhibiting 5-alpha reductase enzyme action

Finasteride

Reduces DHT — the hormone that shrinks hair follicles in pattern hair loss. Primarily prescribed for men, but can be used off-label in post-menopausal women in specific circumstances. Dr Amy will assess whether it’s appropriate for you.

Regenerative Treatments

In-clinic treatments that use your body’s own biology — or cutting-edge biomolecules — to stimulate follicles, reduce inflammation, and support regrowth.

PRP & PRF Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma concentrates growth factors from your own blood and delivers them directly to the scalp. Clinical studies show 30–40% improvement in hair density. PRF, the next generation, releases growth factors more gradually for sustained effect.

Polynucleotide Therapy

DNA-derived molecules injected into the scalp to stimulate tissue repair at a cellular level. One of the newest evidence-based treatments in hair restoration. All sessions at Hair GP are administered by a doctor in our CQC-registered clinic — not a medi-spa.

Device-Based Treatment

Clinically validated light therapy that can be used in-clinic or at home to support your medical treatment plan.

Low-Level Light Therapy

Specific wavelengths of red light stimulate blood flow to the scalp and extend the hair growth phase. Studies show 20–25% improvement in density after 26 weeks. We offer in-clinic sessions and can advise on FDA-cleared home devices for use between appointments.

Surgical Hair Restoration

When medical treatment alone can’t restore the density you want — or when follicles have been permanently lost. Dr Amy performs both techniques, so your entire journey stays under one roof.

fue-extraction-min

FUE Hair Transplant

Individual follicles transplanted from donor areas to thinning regions. No linear scar, faster recovery, natural results. Suitable for women and men with stable hair loss and sufficient donor hair.

FUT-hero-image-min

FUT Hair Transplant

A strip technique that allows more grafts in a single session — ideal when maximum coverage is the priority. Dr Amy will recommend FUE, FUT, or a combination based on your hair loss pattern and goals.

Not Sure Which Treatment Is Right?

The best treatment depends entirely on what’s causing your hair loss — and many women benefit from a combination approach rather than a single therapy. Starting the wrong treatment wastes time and money. Starting the right one early can make the difference between maintaining your hair and losing ground you can’t get back.

Every treatment plan at Hair GP is built from a proper diagnosis — blood tests, trichoscopy, and a full medical history — not a sales consultation.
