Hair Loss Services

Every hair loss journey starts with a question — and the right answer depends on getting the right diagnosis. At Hair GP, our hair loss services are designed around that principle. Rather than offering a one-size treatment to every patient, we begin with a thorough medical assessment and build your treatment plan from what the evidence actually shows.

All services are delivered by Dr Amy, our lead clinician, at our CQC-registered clinic in Parsons Green, London. Because Hair GP is doctor-led rather than trichologist-led, we can diagnose, prescribe, and monitor your treatment under one roof — without referring you elsewhere for the parts that matter most.

Below you’ll find our full range of services, from initial consultation through to ongoing treatment and surgical restoration. If you’re not sure which service you need, start with a consultation — it’s designed to give you a clear answer.

Consultations

A specialist consultation is where every treatment plan begins. Our doctor assesses your hair loss using scalp microscopy, reviews your blood work, and gives you a diagnosis and personalised treatment plan — all in a single appointment.

PMOS / PCOS Hair Loss Clinic

PCOS is now PMOS — and its hair loss is treatable. Blood tests for androgens and insulin resistance, anti-androgen treatment where it is right, and a doctor who joins the whole syndrome up.

HRT & Hair Review

On HRT and worried about your hair? A GMC-registered doctor reviews your regimen for hair-friendliness, tests what matters, and adjusts it directly or with your GP.

Female Hair Transplant

Honest, consult-first transplant assessment for women: who surgery genuinely helps, who it does not, and FUE or FUT planned around female hairlines. £150 consultation, refunded if you proceed.

Hair Loss Consultation

A comprehensive 50-minute assessment including dermoscopic scalp analysis, blood test review, clinical diagnosis, and a personalised treatment plan. If treatment is appropriate, prescriptions can be issued on the same day. This is the starting point for most patients — whether you’ve been losing hair for months or years.

Menopause Hair Assessment

Hair thinning at menopause involves hormonal shifts that most GPs aren’t trained to assess in the context of hair health. Our consultation evaluates oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroid function alongside scalp changes — because HRT alone rarely resolves menopausal hair loss.

Estrogen changes during pregnancy affecting hair growth cycle

Postpartum Hair Loss Assessment

Most postpartum shedding resolves by twelve months. When it doesn’t, underlying female pattern hair loss may have been unmasked by the hormonal shift of pregnancy. Our assessment distinguishes temporary shedding from progressive thinning so you know whether to wait or act.

Diagnostics

Accurate diagnosis drives every treatment decision. We use clinical-grade tools that go beyond what’s available at a standard GP appointment — because the difference between “normal” blood results and optimal levels for hair health is often the difference between continued thinning and recovery.

Hair Loss Blood Tests

A targeted blood panel assessing ferritin, thyroid function, vitamin D, hormones, and other markers relevant to hair health. Critically, we interpret your results against thresholds that matter for hair follicles — not the broad “normal ranges” your GP uses. A ferritin of 15 µg/L is technically normal but far too low for healthy hair growth.

TrichoTest Genetic Testing

A DNA-based test that analyses genetic markers related to hair loss and treatment response. Results help our doctor select the medications most likely to work for your specific genetic profile — reducing trial and error in your treatment plan.

Medical Treatments

Hair GP is a prescribing clinic. Unlike trichologists or most high-street hair clinics, our doctor can prescribe, adjust, and monitor the full range of medical treatments for hair loss — including medications that require specialist oversight. All treatments are tailored to your diagnosis and monitored over time.

Finasteride for hair loss

Prescription Medications

The medical treatments with the strongest evidence base for women’s hair loss. Our doctor prescribes and monitors oral minoxidil, topical minoxidil, spironolactone, and finasteride — selecting the right combination based on your diagnosis, hormonal profile, and treatment goals.

PRP & Regenerative Therapies

Platelet-rich plasma therapy uses your own blood to stimulate hair follicle activity. We offer PRP as a standalone treatment or in combination with prescription medication for enhanced results. Sessions take approximately 30 minutes with no downtime

Polynucleotide Therapy

An injectable treatment that improves scalp tissue quality and creates a better environment for hair growth. Polynucleotides work differently from PRP — regenerating tissue rather than stimulating growth directly — and can be combined with other treatments for a multi-targeted approach.

Low Level Light Therapy

A non-invasive treatment using medical-grade light devices to stimulate follicle activity. LLLT works best as part of a combination approach alongside prescription medication — adding an additional growth stimulus without additional side effects.

Surgical Hair Restoration

When medical treatment alone can’t restore density in areas of significant thinning, hair transplant surgery offers a permanent solution. Our doctor performs both major transplant techniques at our London clinic, and every surgical patient receives a full medical assessment first to ensure underlying causes are addressed before surgery.

FUE Hair Transplant

Follicular Unit Extraction — individual follicles are harvested from the donor area and transplanted to areas of thinning. No linear scar, shorter recovery time, and natural-looking results. Suitable for women with stable hair loss who have sufficient donor hair.

FUT-hero-image-min

FUT Hair Transplant

Follicular Unit Transplant — a strip of donor tissue is removed, dissected into individual grafts, and transplanted. Allows a higher graft count in a single session, making it suitable for patients who need maximum coverage. A thin linear scar is hidden within existing hair.

Not Sure Where to Start?

If you’re not sure which type of hair loss you have — or whether you need medical treatment, surgery, or something else entirely — a consultation is the place to begin. Many women have more than one type of hair loss contributing to their thinning, and only a clinical assessment with dermoscopy can distinguish between them.

Every consultation at Hair GP is with a doctor who specialises in women’s hair loss. You’ll leave with a diagnosis, a clear explanation of your options, and a treatment plan — not a sales pitch.
